Raw Dog Food Recipe With Beef & Turkey

Feeding a balanced raw diet may seem difficult ... but it doesn't have to. This recipe is easy to make and uses tasty ingredients that are great for your dog.

There are no grains or synthetic vitamins. And it meets the minimum AAFCO requirements.

This recipe is for adult dogs only.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds turkey or chicken necks with skin removed (be sure to weigh your necks but this is about 3 to 6 turkey necks or 33 chicken necks)
  • 2 pounds beef heart with fat trimmed
  • 1 pound beef liver
  • 3 pounds 90% lean ground beef
  • 8 pasture-raised eggs without shells
  • 8 ounces (3 large stalks) kale
  • 8 ounces (2 stalks) broccoli
  • 8 ounces (4 chopped cups) dandelion greens
  • 12 ounces (2 small clamshell packages) blueberries or mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and cranberries)
  • 1 ounce raw pumpkin seed powder

IMPORTANT: The berries are optional but all other ingredients should be used in the listed amounts. If you replace ingredients or vary the amounts, the recipe may no longer offer a balanced meal for your dog.

Substitutions

Seaweed calcium can be used in place of bone meal

Directions

Grind together necks, heart and liver. If you don't have a grinder, set necks aside and chop the heart and liver.

Mix the heart and liver (and necks if ground) with all other ingredients. Divide the mixture into 1-3 day portions and put the portions into containers and freeze them.

If the necks were left whole, freeze these as well. You can serve the necks with the mixture or you can give the necks for one meal and the mixture for the next. Your dog doesn't need to get the necks and meat mixture at the same time.

How Many Portions Do You Need?

This recipe should make 11.9 lbs of food. The number of portions this recipe makes will depend on your dog's size.

Adult dogs need 2-3% of their body weight in raw food daily. Here are some general guidelines for this recipe.

  • 10 lb dog: Recipe will make a 18 day supply
  • 25 lb dog: Recipe will make a 9 day supply
  • 50 lb dog: Recipe will make a 5-6 day supply
  • 75 lb dog: Recipe will make a 4 day supply
  • 100 lb dog: Recipe will make a 3 day supply

You may also need to adjust these amount based on your dog’s breed and activity level.

    Optional

When you serve your dog's meals, you may want to consider adding Safe-Sea. This will help balance your dog's essential fatty acids and lower the omega 6 to 3 ratio to 4:1 from 10:1.

Don't add any oils directly to your recipe. If the oil gets exposed to oxygen for too long, it can increase oxidation.
